The Spanish Disciplinary Committee for Sports denies Real Madrid’s motion

Realmadrid.com

Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be able to play with Real Madrid against Deportivo La Coruña because the Spanish Disciplinary Committee for Sports (CEDD) has denied Real Madrid’s request of a preventive suspension of the two match ban Ronaldo received from the Competition Committee. Real Madrid CF’s case still stands and in the next few days will be further examined by the CEDD, who will then reach a decision regarding the player’s two match suspension.

Cristiano has been named Best Portuguese Player Outside Portugal

Realmadrid.com / Translation by Michael J. O’Donnell

Cristinao Ronaldo’s unquestionable talent supplies countless honours for the player, and none are as special as those bestowed upon him by his home country. The Portuguese sports press has named him the best Portuguese Player Outside Portugal.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is part of  Portugal,” says Antonio Florencio, President of the Portuguese Sports Journalists Association, “It is impossible to understand this country without him. Along with Figo [who also played for Real Madrid] and Eusebio [who has always professed his admiration for the team] he is one of the most important players. Ronaldo is different in that he made a great impact when he was very young and he has already won the Ballon d’Or. He is the captain of the national team and has been capped 70 times. He still has a lot to say, especially now that he plays for Real Madrid.”

This is the third time Ronaldo wins the award. “It is a great privilege to win this a third time,” said Cristiano, “I am extremely grateful.”

The Portuguese Sports Journalists Association was established in 1966. This year, they have also honoured Oporto’s Bruno Alves as the Best Portuguese Player in Portugal, Jose Mourinho as the Best Portuguese Coach Outside Portugal, Jesualdo Ferreira as the Best Portuguese Coach in Portugal and Oporto’s Hulk as the Best Newcomer in Portugal.

(AFP) – 3 hours ago

MADRID — Real Madrid blasted the “unfair” red card handed out to Cristiano Ronaldo at the weekend, but said it will accept the referee’s decision.

“Seeing the move, he clearly did not want to hurt the opponent,” Emilio Butragueno, the club’s vice president and former player was quoted as saying Tuesday in sports newspaper Marca.

“I was a striker and when you are challenged you want to free yourself.”

The world’s most expensive player spoiled a stellar two-goal display on Sunday by getting red-carded after a stray elbow caught defender Patrick Mtiliga, who tugged the Portuguese winger’s shirt during the 2-0 win over Malaga.

The Primera Liga’s disciplinary committee is expected to announce later Tuesday whether he will be suspended for one or two matches.

Real’s sporting director, Jorge Valdano, described the decision as “unfair and “very hard” as Ronaldo was merely “trying to continue” the move.

“We regret very much the injury to the Malaga player, we accept any decision, but we defend the conviction that we are right,” he told Spanish radio COPE Tuesday.

It was a second dismissal of the season for Ronaldo who was sent off in a 4-2 win over Almeria on December 5 for kicking out at an opponent.

The former Manchester United star said Monday he also felt his red card was unjust.

“I’ve spoken to Mtiliga and he said he doesn’t believe I should apologise because he doesn’t think I hurt him intentionally,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s website.

“I never try to trick referees. I never intended to injure the player. I believe they should be fair with what really happened.”

“It wasn’t my intention to injure Mtiliga; I’m sad but calm because I intended to play the ball”

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals against Malaga, but he was sent off later in the game with a red card.

“I always want to play and these things anger me. I’ve spoken to Mtiliga and he said he doesn’t believe I should apologise because he doesn’t think I hurt him intentionally.”

“Those who understand football will see the tackle wasn’t worthy of a red card. I was unlucky to hit his nose.”

“I never try to trick referees. I never intended to injure the player. I believe they should be fair with what really happened. I didn’t want to injure anybody. I’m not that kind of person. I’m not a bad person. I just want to shine while I play football. I’ll be angry when I get home because I’m suspended and won’t be able to play in the next match.”

CRISTIANO RONALDO went from hero to villain as he was sent off in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Malaga.

The former Manchester United star received a straight red for elbowing defender Patrick Mtiliga in the face after 70 minutes – a blow which broke the player’s nose.

Ronaldo tried to spin away from Mtiliga and, as they tussled, the Real ace swung his arm and caught the Dane.

Malaga president Fernando Sanz said: “What he should have done is left the field apologising to his opponent rather than throwing his arms in the air and protesting.”

Real chief Jorge Valdano said: “The referee has to understand which players want to entertain and those who want to break up the spectacle.
“Ronaldo’s intentions are always noble.”

The winger had scored the first-half goals to keep Real in sight of leaders BARCELONA.

They remain five points adrift of their rivals after Barca’s 3-0 win at REAL VALLADOLID.
